Beware – this is a long post – so get a cup of coffee and be patient – there is a point to this at the end!
Well the last few months have been very interesting but there is a historical context for all of this noise from Google, Cisco, Oracle/Sun and others. It seems that the topic of the time is the data center and what that means to Cloud Computing. But…this is all a bit of a mistake to see this as the high point. There has been a gradually increasing noise level about the data center for many year in fact decades. For those of us that remember the huge changes at the end of the “mainframe” era this is actually no surprise at all. It is worth taking a quick look back at some of the changes that have been leading to these most recent announcements.
